THE WITTON COLUMN - By media assistant Paul Harper

OUR unbeaten run was ended at the weekend with a defeat at the hands of another side in excellent recent form.

Radcliffe beat us 1-0 at the Neuven Stadium.

The scoreline doesn’t really tell the full story, as it could easily have been something like 4-4 with the number of chances created.

Both teams hit the woodwork, both goalkeepers made some great saves and it was only a superb free-kick by Radcliffe’s Tyrese Sinclair which separated the sides on the day.

Despite returning with no points, Carl Macauley and Gary Martindale can take a lot of positives from the game. That’s only our second defeat in 11 league outings, and on another day, we could easily have picked up a point or even three.

It wasn’t to be, and we will dust ourselves down and go again this Saturday with Whitby Town visiting Wincham Park, looking to maintain our position of having the best home record in the division.

Off the pitch, things continue to go from strength to strength. After suffering a tough period last summer, everyone at the club has pulled together to put things on a better keel and things are looking a lot brighter.

We have a thriving social club, which is packed on match days as well as attracting parties and events throughout the week. And recently, it has further been boosted by our first-team kit sponsor, Worthington’s Transport, agreeing to add to their sponsorship with the social club too.

We’ve agreed further sponsorships and club partnerships with a number of other Northwich businesses too, and we’ll be working hard to help those companies who have been so generous with their sponsorships.

Our junior section continues to grow and it’s great to see the youngsters affiliated with the club coming down and supporting the first team on a Saturday afternoon as well as enjoying playing their football in the red and white stripes.

There is a real buzz around the club and that is coming from all sides pulling together. There is a great community feel to Wincham Park again and it is brilliant to be a part of.
