TAYLOR Kennerley wrapped up a terrific 1874 Northwich triumph at Bootle on Saturday.

He netted the last two goals in a 4-1 bashing of the fourth-placed side as 1874 extended their lead at the top of the North West Counties Premier Division to four points, although second-placed Longridge Town have two games in hand.

All five goals came in the second half.

Ever-reliable striker Scott McGowan turned home Matt Russell’s cross for the opener in the 53rd minute.

He could have doubled the cushion moments later but his powerful shot was saved.

As it was, the next goal wasn’t long in coming.

Jake Parker cut in from the left to leave two defenders flat-footed and placed his shot beyond the keeper’s dive into the far bottom corner, making it two goals in four minutes.

For the third goal, McGowan twisted and turned inside the box and as he pulled back the trigger Kennerley picked his pocket and poked the ball over the keeper’s premature dive for 3-0 after 71 minutes.

Cameron Dalton headed home six minutes later to give the hosts a lifeline but Matt Woolley’s fine pass set Kennerley free from distance and after he slid the ball past the advanced keeper he was able to accompany the ball all the way to the empty net.
