IT'S official – 1874 Northwich have a better football shirt than Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich this season.

A list compiled by FOOTY.COM has named 1874 Northwich’s stunning away shirt as one of the best designs of the year.

The ranking was put together by a selection of football shirt experts and collectors, who came together to rank the top 100 shirts of 2019.

Instead of simply focusing on the big teams, this extensive ranking includes sides from all tiers of professional football.

This means 1874 were up against some of the biggest clubs on the planet, as well as shirts worn in the Copa America, African Cup of Nations and Women’s World Cup.

After counting down over the past few weeks, 1874 Northwich came in at 62nd, with their away shirt sitting one place ahead of Blackburn Rovers, and several places ahead of Real Madrid.

It also beat popular home shirts from Inter Milan and Roma, while plenty of European giants didn’t even feature in the list at all.

This is the only shirt from the North West Counties League Premier Division to be included in the ranking, while Hackney Wick FC are the only other non-league team to feature.

This is a testimony to the great work done by award-winning artist Phil Galloway, who was behind the unique design of the away shirt.

The design takes inspiration from the history of the town, with reviewers commenting that it’s 'bursting with the kind of individuality so many modern kits lack'.

Manufacturer SK Kits can be proud of going up against shirt giants like Nike, adidas, Puma and hummel.

AS Roma were eventually crowned winners, with a lightning-themed away shirt beating designs from Barcelona, Arsenal and Cambridge United to claim the title.

The 1874 shirt is also to appear in an exhibition at the National Museum of Football from November 22 to June 7, 2020.
