LAST week saw the final round of fixtures in the Mid Cheshire Bowling League.

Castle Sports A overcome some of their disappointment in losing out to Wharton Cons in the Brunner Cup Final the previous week by retaining the Premier League title.

Going in to their final fixture at home to Alsager, Castle Sports knew that securing a score 228 chalks would guarantee them the trophy and recorded a victory of 240-160 to ensure the title remained in Northwich.

Wharton Cons pushed them all the way and returned a perfect score of 252 that meant the margin of victory for Castle in the race to the title was a mere 12 chalks.

In Division 1, Crosstown won the title and will return to the Premier League at the first attempt having been relegated in 2018.

They will be joined in the Premier League by new boys Helsby A.

Whitby Cup Winners Owley Wood B had secured the Division 2 title earlier in the month and continue their rise up the leagues and will be joined in Division 1 next year by Sandbach Park.

Great Budworth won the title in Division 3 in their debut year in the Mid Cheshire League and move up to Division 2 alongside Runners-Up Lostock Graylams. Castle Sports C were Division 4 winners with Crowton gaining the second promotion spot. Finally Division 5 saw Norley B take the title whilst Owley Wood D took the runners up spot.

Meanwhile, Jason Cornes of Castle Sports won the Cowley Cup for the sixth time at Rudheath Social Club on Saturday evening.

Cornes won the final 21-15 and collected the Cowley Cup trophy for the sixth time, his first victory in this event was back in 1982.
