THE VICS COLUMN - Let’s be social, with Peter Tonge

SUPPORTING a non-league football club not only brings you all the joy and disappointment that football does, but it also creates friendships and a community, often for life, with your co-fans of all ages as you meet up once or twice a week to watch your team.

This sense of being part of a family is strong at Northwich Vics, especially now that the fans have had the opportunity not only to own the club but to run it as well.

This feeling is strengthened and maintained by having regular social events throughout the year, which also have the added benefit of raising money for the club.

As the players often attend such events, it creates a bond not only between the fans but between the players and fans as well.

In the next few weeks, Northwich Vics have two such events lined up.

Firstly there is our ever popular autumn family bingo evening on Friday, September 27, held at The Wings Club just off the roundabout at the top end of town.

Entry is free to the club, and all you have to pay for are as few or as many bingo cards to play as you wish.

There are all sorts of prizes available to be won, ranging from meals out at local restaurants to bottles of wine etc.

This is always a popular evening and is a great event for all ages. There’s no need to book, just turn up and have fun.

The second event is Northwich Vics’ second Sportsperson’s Evening on Thursday, October 24, which features ex-Manchester United, Everton and Northern Ireland legend Norman Whiteside as our guest speaker.

As well as his more illustrious career at Manchester United, Norman also spent a few months at Northwich Vics as assistant manager and physio before concentrating on becoming a podiatrist.

As well as featuring Norman Whiteside, we also have top comedian Bill Woolland on the bill.

Bill is described as quick-witted, up-to-date and topical and his humour appeals to all audiences of any age with the ability to read a room and adapt his act to each occasion.

He is quite simply very versatile and very funny.

This event will be held at Wincham Park and the cost is £40 a ticket, which includes a full dinner and evening’s entertainment.

This should be a cracking evening and with discounts available for tables of ten people, it’s ideal for businesses to include in their corporate entertainment programme.

Why not come down to support your local football team and join the Vics’ family at one of these events?
