HARTFORD Tennis Club added two more trophies to their season’s haul in the final week of competition.

The Chester Road club won the Jane Astbury Mixed Knockout Competition just a few days after sealing the Division One mixed title in the South and Mid Cheshire Tennis League.

The men’s A team also won the Les Hoff Men’s Knockout after drawing with Congleton A in the final and winning on a games countback.

“It was an amazing way to finish off what has been one of our most successful seasons as a club,” said mixed captain Andrew Moores.

“We benefit from having great depth on both the men’s and the women’s sides at Hartford and that is why we were able to do the double.”

The men’s first team of James Barber, Andrew Moores, James Barlow and captain Mark Gleave played in the cup final, but had been ably supported earlier in the event by George Blackshaw and James Garvey.

In mixed competition the A team travelled to old rivals Congleton A for the final of the cup and ran out 6-2 winners after a strong performance from Helen Plumbtree, Kathryn Barnett, Barber and Moores.

The league was decided in the final few weeks as Hartford beat their nearest rivals Nantwich A 6-2 to clinch the title.

“We felt we deserved the league because we led pretty much from the start of the season,” said Barnett, who also captained the team.

The results capped off a successful season for Hartford who also collected the winter league and cup.

Other highlights included the men’s C team earning promotion to Division One and the F team’s promotion to Division Four.

The ladies’ A suffered a narrow defeat to Nantwich in the final of their cup competition.
