A TALENTED teenager is on track to represent her country at the 2020 Netball Europe Under 17 Open Championships.

Jess Brocklebank, a student at The Grange School in Hartford, has been picked for Wales under 17s after progressing through their trials system.

And the feature event for that age group on the calendar next year is a continental tournament being staged in Wales next March.

Selection is also considered the start of a journey to gaining international honours at senior level.

“The players have been assessed by the national coaches over the past few weeks and I am looking forward to seeing what they are capable of," said Rachel Bayley, head of performance for Wales.

“This squad is about creating the right learning and development environment and providing opportunities in readiness to become a senior player for Wales.

"All of these young athletes have an exciting 12 months ahead of them.”

For the youngster, who plays for Northwich Sapphires, it is the next step on the representative ladder.

She is already a regular for Cheshire at age-group level.

For the 2017-2018 season, she was part of Manchester Thunder’s performance pathway for promising young players along with clubmate Sophie Sellers.

Together they trained with, and played for, the Youth Academy squad.
