WINNINGTON Park will start a new season as hosts to opponents that beat them twice during the previous one.

Bolton arrive at Burrows Hill on Saturday, September 7, in a newly-branded North Two West at step seven of the RFU's English Clubs Championship.

It will consist of 14 teams, one more than last term, following a review of leagues in the north of England by officials from the game's governing body.

Matt Farr's men head to relegated De La Salle seven days later before hosting Eccles, promoted from Lancs/Cheshire Division Two.

A trip to Glossop then completes a testing opening month.

Park are due at Rochdale, rivals over whom they completed an impressive double last season, in October.

Winnington finished sixth in the 2018-2019 campaign, achieving their aim of a top-half finish after winning the title at the level below the year before.

They can expect a challenge with the two other demoted clubs, Anselmians and Manchester, both eager to return to North One West at the first attempt.

Aspull step up as champions with an unblemished record after winning all 20 league games while Aspatria, runners-up in Cumbria Division One, have been transferred sideways.

Curiously, two of the bottom three last time out – Liverpool Collegiate and Fleetwood – have both resigned from the RFU pyramid to join a breakaway Lancashire County League.

Winnington's players have returned for pre-season training already.

Meanwhile the Cheshire RFU has confirmed that the opening round of its knockout competitions will retain a now-traditional position in the calendar of Bank Holiday weekend in August.
