A NARROW defeat in their opener last month will motivate Mid Cheshire to register a first win in the British Ladies’ County Championship this weekend.

They meet counterparts from Wales this Sunday, from 2pm.

Selectors have largely kept faith with a side that lost by 26 chalks against Shropshire, making only three changes.

Linda Hough, of Norley, and Owley Wood’s Dot Barker will take the places of Val Dale (Owley Wood) and Viv Raddy (Castle) for the home leg at Norley.

Meanwhile 11 of the dozen bowlers that travelled to St George’s Bowling Club in Telford will be on their travels to Meliden, in Prestatyn, this time around.

Pat Newhouse (Norley) is the only adjustment, replacing Wendy Allen of Barnton Cricket Club.

Mid Cheshire have returned to the competition proper for 2019 after they were promoted as champions from the President’s Division last season with an unblemished record.

Section Three appears likely to be hard-fought as there was little between all four sides in May.

Wales won by 41 chalks in the home leg against South Staffordshire but a defeat on the road saw them prevail by 30 on aggregate.

Three Castle members, Emma Earlam, Katie Harrop and Pam Naughton, are part of Cheshire’s side for a head-to-head with Merseyside at Hoylake Central and Melrose.

Pam Plant, also of Castle, has been named as a reserve for the same game.

All games start at 2pm.
