WHARTON Cons A ended the hopes of Norley B, the lowest-ranked side left in the Littler Cup, when they progressed to the semi-finals on Sunday.

The Winsford outfit gave to the Section Five side a 72-chalk head-start at Davenham, where they returned nine winning cards on their way to victory by 15 on aggregate.

Four men – Simon Cookson, Martin Kettle, Pete Illidge and Tom Vickers – won to single figures, while Dave Orr celebrated a success for the underdogs.

Their reward is a head-to-head with Rudheath B, who squeezed out Section One rivals Owley Wood A at Castle.

They did not need assistance from a 16-chalks handicap advantage on an afternoon when Sue Bellamy and Pam Naughton were the pick of half-a-dozen winners.

Meanwhile Jimmy O’Brien was the outstanding individual performer for the Weaverham outfit, beating Charlie Linegar 21-8.

Rudheath D will not be joining their clubmates in the last four after they bowed out against Comberbach C at Wharton Cons.

The Section Two side had to overturn at 20-chalk handicap deficit, something they managed after taking seven of the head-to-heads played.

Dave Potts convinced most, beating Jean Morrow 21-6.

A line-up for the semi-finals is completed by Frodsham Red Lion A after they brushed aside a challenge from Premier Division rivals Wharton Cons B at Owley Wood.

Barry Ellams, Phil Wainwright and Matty Worden all triumphed to single figures for a side seeking to lift the trophy for a third time since 2006.
