BEN Gibbon deserved more than for a career-best bowling performance to go without the reward of a victory on Saturday.

The Oulton Park all-rounder returned figures of 8-59 off 16 overs but Timperley, the visitors to Pinfold Lane for a Premier Division encounter, made it to their target with two wickets to spare.

Tail-ender Chris Page (21no) defied the home team, contributing to an unbeaten ninth-wicket partnership worth 30 runs to take the game away from them.

Overseas signing Nick Ward held on to four catches.

Martyn East’s men had been dismissed for 156 after winning the toss, the captain scoring 22 at the top of the order.

Tom Hyslop (17) and Matthew Jamieson (36 off 30 balls) added 52 runs for the fifth wicket after coming together at 70-4 before Furqan Shafiq (4-34) and Abhishekh Chidambaran (3-39) took control.

Davenham’s batsmen endured an afternoon to forget after failing to muster 100 runs in a Division One meeting with Sale.

Matthew Nicholls (25) and captain Ben Gough (22) both made starts but they had little support as the visitors succumbed for 98.

Dan Newton (3-13) and Isaac Brooks (3-19) were the pick of the hosts’ attack.

Sale then cruised to a nine-wicket win in 23 overs with Ryan Blackie (1-10) claiming the wicket of Greg Gyves (32).

However Matt Spells (24no) and Tyrone Lawrence (44no) finished the job despite Gough trying seven bowlers in a bid to break through.

His side slip to eighth in the table as a result.

Northwich remain rooted to the bottom of Division Two following a 199-run hammering at Stockport Georgians.

Their hosts declared at 278-7, a tally to which Francis Yates (52) and Simon Normanton (50) both contributed a half-century.

Glinoj Cherian (3-61) was again among the wickets for the visitors, while Justine Joseph (2-27) weighed in too.

The Moss Farm outfit’s struggles at the crease continued when they folded for 79 in reply with James Gittings (24) again the pick of their batsmen.
