OULTON Park could not follow a knockout success against Marple the previous weekend with another when the teams met again.

Set a target of 186 to win the men from Little Budworth, still searching for a first victory in the Cheshire County League this season, fell short by 55 runs.

Their reply never recovered from Andy Wylie’s early blitz; he took 3-11 from eight overs, including three maidens, to leave them 18-3.

Mark Latham (58) and Harry Newton (14no) added 66 runs for the ninth wicket to frustrate the home team but wickets in successive balls for George Clarke (2-6) brought the innings to an end on 130 all out.

Marple had put 185-9 on the board, a total build on a 76-run partnership for the first wicket between Andrew Hall (74) and captain James Morgan (36).

Ben Gibbon (3-47), Andrew Dufty (2-50) and Danny Leech (2-35) ensured wickets fell at regular intervals after an initial breakthrough by Newton (1-28).

Davenham were denied a fourth successive victory in Division One, a feat they hadn’t managed since 2015, by free-scoring Bramhall.

The hosts amassed 227-5 after winning the toss, although the visitors felt some regret after reducing them to 44-3.

Nick Cantello (86no) and Jack Clark (36) added 79 for the fourth wicket before the former shared in an unbeaten sixth-wicket stand worth 71 with Chris Sanders (48no off 25 balls).

Adam Garrod took 2-63, while there was a wicket each for Ben Gough, Danny Hancock and Chris Clarkson.

The visitors struggled in reply and succumbed for 136, a defiant mid-innings partnership between Garrod (38no) and Sam Hatcher (17) - who put on 44 together – merely delaying their defeat.

Ryan Macciocchi (4-7 off five overs) interrupted that partnership, helped by a stumping from wicket-keeper Andrew Reynolds, before accelerating their demise.

Northwich remain rooted to the bottom of Division Two after losing by 144 runs at home to Hale Barns.

The visitors to Moss Farm totalled 250-9 after choosing to bat first with Christian Dodson (66no) and opener Joe Cooper (52) both contributing a half-century.

Glinoj Cherian (4-59) was most successful of the hosts’ bowling attack, followed by Justine Joseph (2-51).

Northwich mustered 106 after the turnaround, although they occupied the crease for 42 overs before Cooper (6-28) ended their resistance.
