BARNTON were grateful to their captain for helping to change the course of their innings during an 80-run win at Lymm.

James Hodgkinson (53) added 75 runs for the sixth wicket together with Matthew Bebbington (25) after the pair had come together at 60-5 – opener Paul Coot contributing 31 of those.

Pat Flanagan (34no) played a part too as they closed on 210-9.

Lymm’s reply never got going, and they fell to 130 all out.

Coot (3-20), Neil Langham (3-29) and Cory Devanny (2-15) - who took the final wicket to clinch a second victory of the campaign in Division One – combined effectively.

Kingsley had reason to feel rueful after failing to score 139 to beat leaders Haslington.

After Craig Lynch (2-42) removed both openers and Austin Smith bowled captain Ben Istead, it was the turn of Adrian Burden (4-32) to take control as the next four wickets fell for 49.

The visitors closed on 138-9, but the Crofters ran out of wickets on 133.

Harris Yassin (35) was the pick of their top-order before Mike Yeates (22) and Smith (19) showed defiance later but Imran Khan (5-38) was the away team’s match-winner.

Weaverham beat Port Sunlight by six wickets after Ryan Simm (50) and Kevin Douglas (35no) shared in a fourth-wicket stand worth 81 runs that was a highlight of their winning.

A collective effort in the field by the Russets had earlier reduced their guests to 121 all out with Simm (4-12) and Douglas (3-27) enjoying support from Stef Bell (2-28) and Mike Dean (1-35).

Wicket-keeper Rob Harrison held on to four catches behind the stumps.

Oakmere lost by 83 runs at Cheadle, who set them a target of 171 to win.

However the visitors’ reply never recovered from a disastrous start despite the best effort of David Purcell (20) and James Hodkinson (14) to delay the inevitable.

Joe Roddis continued an encouraging start to the summer after the home team won the toss, returning figures of 4-27 off 14 overs – seven of those maidens.

Winnington Park extended a run of victories in all competitions to four following an eight-wicket win over Wilmslow in Division Two.

A collective effort by their bowling attack, which featured Hassan Irfan (3-12), Jonny Wales (3-32), Joe Stimpson (2-32) and James Hendry (2-11) taking wickets, knocked over the visitors to the Rec for 101.

They needed only 16 overs to pass that marker, with captain Alec Butcher (44) and Sam Barnes (21) putting on 53 for the first wicket before Wales (30no) finished the job.

Middlewich succumbed to an 89-run reverse at Maritime after they were dismissed for 100.

The departure of opener James Prime (33) precipitated a collapse from 55-4 when they responded to their opponents’ 189-7.

Prime (2-29) had been provided support for Denton Brock (4-26) during a promising start before a sixth-wicket partnership worth 114 runs between Perera Shan (44) and Thisal Jayawardana (81) took the game away from Nick Gill’s men.
