PAUL Coot played a leading role for Barnton when they cruised to an six-wicket win away to Kingsley last weekend.

He bowled Alistair Begg (25) to end a partnership worth 54 runs with captain Ben Stoddart (78) that had steered the Crofters away from danger after losing two early wickets.

He went on to take 6-17 from seven overs, including two maidens, as the hosts collapsed to 121 all out.

Coot (36) continued a fine afternoon’s work when he contributed to a successful reply anchored by Australian Brayden Tracey (61no) who passed 50 for the first time since arriving in England.

They closed on 122-4.

Oakmere put behind them the disappointment of a heavy opening-day defeat when they brushed aside fellow promoted side Stockport Trinity.

New recruit David Purcell (4-26) and Joe Roddis (3-22) were the pick of their bowlers when they knocked over their opponents for 104 after winning the toss.

Matthew Howard (1-33), James Hodkinson (1-17) and skipper Craig Phelan (1-0) took the other wickets to fall.

The latter had to calm nerves after his side’s reply teetered at 65-5, sharing in an unbroken stand worth 41 runs with Purcell (19no) to take the Northwich side to 106-5.

Weaverham endured an afternoon to forget when they went down to a chastening 145-run reverse at home to Cheadle Hulme.

A third-wicket partnership between Humayun Khalid (66) and Chris Taylor (77) worth 123 runs took the game away from the Russets as their opponents posted 206-6.

Ryan Simm (2-81) and Stef Bell (2-54) earned a small reward for their toils.

However the home team were flattened for 61 after tea, with only three batsmen reaching double-figures, thanks to Scott Howarth (6-15) and Nauman Akram (4-19).

Winnington Park reached a target set for them by neighbours Middlewich to take maximum points from their Division Two encounter.

Needing 140 to win, they were grateful to opener Sam Barnes (67 off 80 balls) for his role anchoring a successful reply.

Ben Coulbeck (23) chipped in later on too, while Kieran Boyle (2-25) and Matt Ryan (2-14) were most successful with the ball for the visitors.

The men from Haddon Field had put 139-7 in the book with Richard Clorley (39) the pick of their batsmen while Matt Allen (22) and Boyle (20) provided support.

However they were restricted by a Park attack that featured Jonny Wales claiming 3-21.

Winsford’s bowlers had too much to do when their side suffered a seven-wicket reverse against Wistaston Village at Knights Grange.

The home team succumbed for 54 after being put in with Keith Thornhill (4-5 off eight overs) their tormentor-in-chief.

Their opponents eased to 55-3 in 21 overs when they replied.

Hartford eased to a 10-wicket win at home to Europa Exiles in Division C North/South.

Arpit chipped in with three wickets, costing only 10 runs, as the visitors to Grange Park were sent packing for just 40.
