Why should I watch..?

To see if 1874 Northwich can finish the season on a high by getting their hands on a piece of silverware.

Their task is a formidable one against newly-crowned North West Counties League Premier Division champions City of Liverpool, who are seeking a double.

The Purps also know what it takes to win this competition after beating Barnoldswick Town on penalties in the final two years ago.

A team managed jointly by Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison has also yet to beat their opponents this weekend in four previous meetings.

However they have saved their best performances during the current campaign for the Macron Cup with a five-goal drubbing of Congleton in the first leg of their semi-final a highlight.

What they’ve said

"The priority for us is to perform well, to the standard we know that we’re capable of, and the rest will look after itself.

“We have respect for City of Liverpool, and know their strengths in attacking areas, and I don’t think them winning the title in the circumstances that they did last weekend changes how we approach this game.”

Wayne Goodison, 1874 Northwich co-manager

“1874 have been in good form at the back end of the season and we have got to give them respect and make sure that we turn up.

“I am expecting an exciting final and will be telling all of our players, but especially our young ones, how lucky they are to be in one and to enjoy the experience.”

Craig Robinson, City of Liverpool manager

What happens if the scores are level after 90 minutes?

There is no extra-time. A penalty shoot-out decides the victor if the teams are tied.

1874 team news

Mark Jones, an influential figure in midfield, is ruled out by suspension as punishment for his dismissal against Whitchurch last month.

Jack Irlam (ankle) hasn’t recovered from an injury in time to play, while Jake Parker is ineligible after appearing for previous club Wythenshawe Town in an earlier round.

However management duo Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison expect Jack Pritchard (shoulder) and Taylor Kennerley (ankle) to be fit.

1874’s other absentees – Sam Freakes, Ryan Jackson, Jack Tinning and Joe Woolley (all knee) - are long-term.
