TWO crews from Northwich Rowing Club contested A finals in their boat class during the Junior Sculling Regatta last weekend.

An under 18s boys’ quad, stroked by Gwilym Harris and with Tom Swithenbank, T Roberts and Patrick Brogan on board, classified sixth on Dorney Lake at Eton.

They had occupied the same position after a time-trial over a 1,750m course, shortened by organisers because of the challenging weather condition, in the morning.

Aaron Bennion and Jack Millington matched their clubmates’ feat after also ranking sixth overall in an under 16s boys’ double.

Meanwhile a third Northwich entry, an under 18s girls’ quad, crossed the line second in the B final to finish eighth.

Ellie Cushen, Lydia Heath, Charlotte Almond and Ellie Heathcock were on duty.

There was disappointment for an under 16s girls' eight from Northwich on Saturday after the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta was cancelled because of the bad weather.

Sophie Garlick, Lily Fisher, Hannah Middlebrook, Mila Speakman, Iona Mitchell, Amelia Roberts, Maisy Jardine, Anna Carnell and cox Freddie Cushen had been selected to represent the North West in Peterborough.

"The organising committee appreciates that it is disappointing for competitors who have worked hard to be ready and were looking forward to representing their regions," read a statement from officials.

"The forecasts predicted wind gusts that would likely lead to difficult and potentially unsafe conditions."
