Mickleover Sports 0-0 Witton Albion

WITTON Albion remain without a victory against Mickleover since they returned to the Northern Premier League's top-flight but they shut out their opponents on Tuesday.

A goalless stalemate inches Carl Macauley's men up to ninth in the table, but they paid a price with injuries to Ben Harrison and Will Jones ending early their involvement.

The latter accounted for the visitors' first attempt on goal, firing wide of the far upright.

Anthony Gardner had a clearer sight of goal when he met Danny McKenna's deep cross with his head but the outcome was the same when he ought to have done better.

At the other end, goalkeeper Greg Hall stopped an effort from Jack Storer before Harrison limped off to prompt a reshuffle that led to McKenna playing deeper.

Efforts from distance by Mickleover duo Evan Garnett and Storer, again, didn't worry Albion's custodian in the second-half.

Jones was hurt following a collision with Lewis King, Sports' number one, before Billy Smart fluffed Witton's best chance of the game when he lifted the ball over the bar after Josh Wardle directed it into his path at a corner.

The home team, seeking to further boost hopes they can avoid relegation from the Premier Division following back-to-back wins against Workington and Nantwich, then went close.

Storer's effort from outside of the penalty area with six minutes left was fielded though at the second attempt by Hall.
