EMILY Martin was the second fastest female rider in the Stretford Wheelers 10 near Monks Heath in Cheshire on Sunday.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club rider was 12 seconds adrift of victor Keri Parton (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) who took first prize after completing a course along the A537 through Chelford and Ollerton in 24:24.

Lynsey Astles improved on her personal best by two minutes after stopping the clock in 27:29.

Sam Taylor was the pick of Weaver Valley’s men after timing 23:02 while novice Dave Curran produced a quick 23:40.

Stuart Ward (24:06), John O’Mara (25:02), Lloyd Smith (25:07), Colin Carthy (25:16) and Colin Latter (25:34) were all in action too.

Jack Brown (ActiveEdge RT) ranked first in the men’s category after clocking 20:20, winning by 29 seconds from Alex Royle (Manchester BC).

Shaun Roberts, a novice Weaver Valley Cycling Club racer, showed strongly on his debut at the Green Jersey RT/Hoppers Rollers Road Race Series near Clitheroe.

A three-man breakaway, led by Steve Fidler (3C Payment Sports), took the top placings while Roberts held station to contest a bunch sprint to the line and finish seventh overall – second in his age-group category.
