Why should I watch..?

To see if improving Witton Albion can put a dent in Farsley Celtic’s hopes of finishing as champions.

Carl Macauley’s men have won three of their past four matches, a sequence that has seen them rise into the Premier Division table’s top-half for the first time since August.

They will be motivated as well to avenge a narrow 3-2 defeat in the return at Wincham Park in December when Nathan Cartman’s late goal settled the outcome in the visitors’ favour.

Farsley have won their past four matches, and start the weekend as league leaders on goal-difference from Warrington.

They are a formidable foe on home turf, and have lost only one of 14 matches in front of their own supporters.

What they’ve said

“Witton are a good side; they’re organised and disciplined.

“We had a close game with Witton at their place when we had a couple of players missing.

“All we can do is just prepare right and do the right things.”

Adam Lakeland, Farsley Celtic manager

"I felt we ought to have taken a point from the game at Christmas [against Farsley], particularly after leading twice.

“They’re top of the table for a reason and have a stronger squad this season than they did last year and that means we’ll be tested fully.

“However they’ll show us respect too and I know they watched us Tuesday.”

Carl Macauley, Witton Albion manager

Numbers game

Only two teams, tomorrow’s opponents Farsley Celtic and Warrington, have won more away games than Witton to date this season

A man in form...

Will Jones

The front man has scored in each of Albion’s past three matches, including the opening goal in a 2-0 win at Workington on Tuesday night.

It has been a boost to his confidence and he has revelled in a lone striker’s role when supported by attacking midfielders in behind him.

Witton team news

Will Booth is waiting for a scan to reveal the extent of damage to his left knee after he left the field on a stretcher during the first-half of last weekend’s win against North Ferriby.

Albion will have defender River Humphreys available again after he missed a midweek trip to Cumbria because of work commitments.

Meanwhile striker Jordan Cobley is with Barnton tomorrow for their North West Counties League fixture at Cheadle Town.

Chris Noone (knee) and Nick Ryan (leg) are both long-term injury absentees.

From the archive…

Remember when Witton visited Throstle Nest last season?

Albion needed a victory to remain in contention for a promotion play-offs place and travelled back to Northwich with some regret after a 1-1 draw.

They dominated from the outset, and might have been out of sight long before Nathan Cartman put the home team in front.

Rob Hopley’s reply at least rescued a point for Carl Macauley’s men.

The Guardian was there, and this is how we reported it:
