WINNINGTON Park were ruthless in punishing their opponents’ indiscipline when they extended a run of victories to four last weekend.

They avenged with it a narrow defeat in the return.

Matt Farr’s men broke through on the quarter-hour when Jack Williams darted past two defenders before passing to wing Nick Clawson who sprinted to the line.

Cameron Flanagan’s conversion attempt was successful.

However Tarleton rallied and replied with a try of their own two minutes later following sloppy tackling by the hosts’ defence.

There was little to choose between the teams before Flanagan landed a penalty for Park awarded following a high-tackle, making it 10-5.

The visitors again showed their determination and one of their wing men made forward progress before turning provider for a teammate in support who dotted down their second score.

It jolted Winnington, and Danny Williams added his name to the score-sheet shortly before the interval to leave his side 15-12 in front.

Clawson’s return to first-team duty was cut short when he succumbed to an ankle injury and was replaced by Lee Allmark.

Park played with intensity from the restart and their pressure was rewarded when Flanagan notched another three-pointer after the referee judged a Tarleton man to have infringed at a maul.

He was sent to the sin-bin as punishment.

When a visiting player failed to release the ball soon afterwards, Flanagan again increased his side’s tally by three points.

To their credit Winnington’s opponents scored a third try, which was converted too, to close a gap between the teams on the scoreboard.

Any tension among Park’s supporters was eased though when Flanagan kicked a fourth penalty following another handling offence.
