WEAVER Valley Cycling Club riders contested the third Monster Cross, held for the first time at Delamere Forest, on Sunday.

A three-hour cyclocross endurance race consisting of laps around a challenging 6km off-road course, Jim Duffy and Andy Milligan were the highest-placed of the Northwich club’s contingent after finishing 10th overall and third in the men’s pairs.

Louise Mainwaring was third in the women’s category and 58th overall.

Kevan Underhill was 32nd while Matthew Hornby, competing on a single-speed mountain bike to make his task harder, ranked 37th.

Dane Walker was the other Weaver Valley rider in the field and classified 75th.

Chris Bailey (Velo Runner RT) took first prize after completing 11 laps in 3:09:02 while Emma Knight (Twelve50 Bikes/Frodsham Wheelers) was the pick of the females in action after clocking 3:26.15.

Kristian Speckely and Ian Hardie (Team Element) took the men’s pairs title in 3:11.09 while David Spencer and Cheri Mills (Team oneplanetadventure) were victors in the mixed pairs category.

Organisers have said they hope to return to the same venue in 2020.
