NORTHWICH Victoria reached the last eight of the FA Vase after recovering from a goal down to knock out Histon.
Vics scored twice in extra-time to complete a comeback that had started after Darrhyl Mason’s header replied to Dan Brown’s opener for the Stutes.
The teams could not be separated inside 90 minutes but the visitors to the Glassworld Stadium took a step towards the quarter-finals when Mason converted Joel Brownhill’s cross from close-range.
Histon, with former Northwich goalkeeper Lance Key at the helm, were then reduced to 10 men when Matt Green was sent off as punishment for his foul on Jack Fleming.
Steve Wilkes’ side, conquerors of Newcastle Benfield away from home at the previous stage, were then denied by Max York’s brilliant goal-line clearance after substitute Dom Craig skipped around goalkeeper Sam Roach.
However another replacement, Jordan Darr, put the visitors out of the Eastern Counties League title-hopefuls’ reach when he held his nerve to slide a neat finish through Roach’s legs at the end of a counter-attack.
A sixth win in this season’s competition, on only their second appearance, moves Vics closer to an appearance at Wembley to contest the final.
