LOUISE Mainwaring continued to gain experience on the same day Weaver Valley Cycling Club hosted the latest round of the North West Cyclo Cross League.

She classified ninth in the women’s race at Blakemere Village – an eighth outing in the competition during her novice campaign.

A fast, dry course at Sandiway attracted entries from Weaver Valley in several other categories.

Nicole Clarke, a junior from Birkenhead North End CC, was the pick of 19 finishers.

Kevin Waton was 35th in a senior men’s race won by Dave Powell (Horwich CC) while Jim Duffy ranked 39th in the men’s over 40s age-group.

James Dalton (Pedalsport CC) took first prize.

Dave Halman was a victor for Weaver Valley in the men’s over 70s class while Kevin Underhill crossed the line third in the men’s over 60s age-group after five laps of a 2.5km layout that included technical challenges in the form of steps and hills.

Nick Butterworth took eighth in the men’s over 55s and Andy Milligan celebrated a top-10 finish in the men’s over 50s event.

Paul Mashiter, from Barrow Central Wheelers, prevailed that race.

League officials thanked organiser Matt Hornby, and many Weaver Valley members that volunteered to help him, for his part in a successful day’s riding that had started in the morning with races for juniors aged from eight through to under 16s.

“We’re a lucky bunch being able to do these races and the clubs who make the events happen are the best,” said a spokesman.
