CASTLE D showed their determination to win the Northwich and District League’s Division One title after recovering from 3-0 down to beat clubmates Castle B.

They take top spot in the table as a reward for Leigh Cobley, Steve Moores, Fred Backhouse and Jason Chester, who prevailed in a decider, taking their frames last Wednesday.

Champions Gladstone C, with a game in hand, are five points adrift.

Gladstone B sit third after recording a sixth win from the past seven attempts, this time thrashing Rudheath.

Craig Humphries potted every ball from a single visit to the table to clinch the opening frame for Greenbank C against visiting Barn Owl B.

However it could not inspire his teammates to avoid a third successive defeat in the second division after Dave Bell took a decisive seventh frame.

Leaders Greenbank A came a cropper too, losing unexpectedly at struggling Iron Bridge A.

Those results were a gift to Broken Cross, who recovered from 3-1 down to beat Owley Wood A after Jack Johnston won the final frame.

They sit second with a five-point lead over rivals for promotion.

On a night of close calls, Dalton Parker held his nerve to help Lion A squeeze past lowly Witton Albion and Darren Walton did the same for Gladstone D to dash Witton Chimes A’s hopes.

Greenbank B landed a blow on pacesetters Green Dragon A in Division Three when they ran out 5-2 victors.

They draw level on points as a result although their rivals have a game in hand.

Iron Bridge H remain in contention after twice recovering from two frames down to beat Wheatsheaf, Dana McCormack sealing a comeback win for her side.

Green Dragon B let slip a 3-1 lead against Winnington Rec before Tim Prince halted their opponents’ revival in the seventh frame.
