HAVING gone two years without losing a game, Woolston Rovers’ under 15s side have been invited to take part in Ryan Atkins’ Testimonial celebrations on Sunday.

The team, who have completed back-to-back ‘trebles’, will take on West Leeds in a ‘War of the Roses’ clash at Monks Sports Club, with the game kicking off at 11.30am before Warrington Wolves take on Widnes Vikings at The Halliwell Jones Stadium later that afternoon.

Darren Geritas, the team’s head coach, says it was an easy decision to accept Atkins’ invitation to take part.

“We had no hesitation in agreeing to play this game,” he said.

“It is a really good test for the lads as we prepare for the new season and also it is for a really good cause.

“Ryan has been an excellent player for The Wire over the past ten years and I was really pleased when he spoke to me and asked if we would host this game.”

Atkins himself has encouraged people to head down and watch the game, with the sides having never met at this level before.

“It is fitting that I asked Woolston to take part in this game,” he said.

“They have had a great record recently and hopefully everybody will enjoy the game.

“I have a friend who is a coach of the West Leeds side and they have agreed to travel over to Warrington for this game, which I am really grateful to them for.

“I am looking forward to what will be a very special day for myself and my family.”
