GREG Mairs signalled his intent when he added another title to his collection at the first European tournament of 2019.

The Northwich-born left-hander celebrated with Peter Briggs after they recorded an impressive victory in the men’s doubles final at the Estonian International.

They progressed through four stages inside the Kalev Sports Hall at Tallinn – eliminating three seeded combinations – before brushing aside Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Loh Kean Hean from Singapore in straight games (22-20, 21-18) to take first prize.

And Mairs, a former student at Sir John Deane’s College and Weaverham High School now representing Loughborough University, narrowly missed out on a triumph in the mixed doubles at the same event.

Together with Viki Williams, the 24-year-old went down to Chrisnanta and Tan Wei Han after a deciding third set.
