CARL Macauley believes his players are being rewarded for their performances in a way they weren’t earlier in the season.

Witton Albion came from behind twice to record a win at Marine last weekend, extending an unbeaten run in the Northern Premier League to four matches.

It becomes their longest sequence without losing this term.

“Since the start of the season we’ve had more good days than bad ones,” said the manager.

“We’ve been competitive against the best teams in the division, and I think we’ve stayed at a pretty consistent level.

“It’s a boost for us to have put some points on the board though.”

Witton still have work to do, of course.

They enter the weekend, when they travel to Hednesford Town, occupying 17th position in the Premier Division and with four games to play before reaching the halfway mark in their campaign.

Their confidence is high though after chalking up a fourth away victory on an afternoon when they also prevailed for the first time this term after conceding the opening goal.

Macauley said: “The lads showed a lot of character, particularly as Marine went 2-1 up against the run of play.

“We got ourselves back into it, perhaps with a bit of luck as well after Tom Owens’ shot went through the goalkeeper’s hands, but I always felt the game would go our way because we were causing them problems.

“It’s a massive win for us in the circumstances after losing Danny McKenna to injury and with James Foley and Will Jones both short on match-fitness.

“They played with their hearts and not their legs, because it was against their old club but we came through.”

Witton included new recruit Jordan Lussey, a midfielder signed on dual-registration terms from Chorley, from the first minute.

They also introduced another signing, striker Jordan Cobley, as a second-half substitute following his arrival from Barnton.
