MATT Davis admits he faces “a massive challenge” to get into the Warrington Wolves side this season.

The second rower is one of six new recruits at The Halliwell Jones Stadium for 2019 having arrived from London Broncos.

With the back row of The Wire’s pack stacked with international-class talent, Davis acknowledges displacing any of them is a tough ask.

However, he aims to learn from the more experienced players in his position during his first season as a Super League player.

“My aim is to play as much as I possibly can,” he said.

“It’s going to be a massive challenge for me this season. There are a lot of great players here who play in the same position as me, so it’s going to be a tough gig.

“I’m looking forward to working hard and I think the challenge will allow me to step up my game and go the extra mile.

“I’m always learning. I’m still young at 22 and there’s a lot to learn from people like Bennie Westwood, Jace Clark and Jack Hughes.

“They are very good players who have been in the game for years.”

In joining Warrington, Davis links back up with former teammate and head coach Andrew Henderson, whom he worked with at London.

The Leicestershire native helped steer the Broncos to an unlikely promotion to Super League in 2018 and admits he was nervous about moving to a new environment – but they were put to bed almost immediately.

“The boys have made me feel really welcome,” he said.

“It’s a great bunch of lads and you can definitely see why they did so well last year.

“Pricey and the coaching staff like to set a good example and it creates a good team morale.

“Even in the first week, I felt like I’d been here months.

“I’d been at London for four or five years, so I was a bit nervous about coming into a new club as I didn’t know what to expect, but I felt part of the team straight away.

“I debuted with Hendo. He came out of retirement with London and I made my debut at the same time.

“I’ve always got on really well with him and we’ve always seen eye-to-eye on a lot of things, so it’s good to link back up with him.”
