Triton Ladies 3-3 Winnington Park Ladies
WINNINGTON Park had to come from behind twice to earn a share of the spoils from a draw with Triton.
Helen Moore’s equaliser five minutes before the final whistle spared the Cheshire Women’s League Division One leading-scorers from an unexpected defeat.
They had taken the leader against the run of play when Leona Wyllie found the net only for their hosts to rally and lead 2-1 by the break.
The Northwich side regrouped afterwards and drew level through a second Wyllie goal before Triton scored from the restart.
Moore’s intervention was timely, and keeps her side third in the table ahead of a visit from Golborne - the final fixture before a pause for Christmas - on Saturday.
Winnington Park Ladies 2nd 1-0 Triton Ladies 2nd
A MOMENT of inspiration from player-coach Chris Davies made the difference for Winnington Park’s seconds against their Triton counterparts.
She reacted smartly from a short corner, lifting the ball into the path of Becky Forster who directed it past the goalkeeper for a close contest’s only goal.
Winnington dominated at Grange School, but were repeatedly thwarted by their opponents’ net-minder who produced a string of fine saves.
They move further from the Division Three table’s bottom two as a reward for a fourth league win of the campaign.
A trip to Oswestry, opponents only two places and as many points better off, follows this weekend.
