ALICE Worden surprised even herself when she claimed two titles at the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships in Cardiff on Saturday.

The Northwich Rowing Club member was the fastest to complete 2km in the lightweight women’s category, timing 7:48.0 to edge Elinor George for first place.

And she did not stop there.

The 24-year-old, who began rowing at her hometown club in 2015, could not be beaten over 500m in the same section at Channel View Leisure Centre.

“I still can’t quite believe it,” she said.

She was joined in Wales by clubmate Oliver White, who recorded a personal best in the heavyweight men’s field over 2km (6:42.5) and 500m (1:29.7).

It completed a happy spell for the pair who had joined forces in a mixed double scull to record a victory in their boat-class at the Head of the Soar in Loughborough seven days earlier.
