A CREW from Northwich Rowing Club was the fastest to complete a 5km course at the Chester Long Distance Sculls.

Harrison Kendall-Smith stroked an under 18s boys’ quad that included Patrick Brogan, Toby Roberts and Gwilym Harris to first prize after they stopped the clock in 18:04.4 on Saturday.

It was one of eight category wins for the club on the River Dee.

An open men’s double with Rhys Coffey and Tom Swithenbank on board was a comfortable victor over a rival from hosts Royal Chester, timing 19:50.9.

Andy Malins and Simon Crouchley, in a masters men’s C/D double, matched their feat.

Northwich crews continued to impress at a rescheduled event that was postponed in September because of bad weather.

Olivia Dunnett, Kiera Burke, Molly Garlick, Zara Gautier-Price made up an under 18s girls’ quad that topped the time-sheet in their boat class.

An under 15s girls’ coxed quad of Hannah Middlebrook, Mila Speakman, Tess Asteriaides, Iona Mitchell and Rhian Dobson were similarly emphatic victors.

A green and gold crew with Jake Mills, Joseph Neale, Charlie Sunley, Louis Martin and Oliver Neale on board won the under 15s boys’ equivalent for their skill level.

Meanwhile Isabel Ennis and Fran Campbell joined forces to edge out Grosvenor in a women’s double scull.

Jack Millington, in an under 16s boys’ single, completed a list of Northwich successes.
