Why should I watch..?

To see if Witton can transfer their form from cup competitions into the Northern Premier League.

Albion have saved their best performances for one-off knockout ties this season, and enter the weekend occupying 19th position in the Premier Division table.

They will be greeted by hosts that haven’t won any of their past five games in the top-flight, although four of those have been draws.

A midweek exit from the FA Trophy following a 2-1 replay defeat against Stalybridge Celtic was a blow, but the Bucks remain formidable opponents in front of their own supporters.

They have won five of their seven league games to date at Silverlands, losing only once and keeping four clean-sheets.

What they’ve said

“Our consistency levels must improve if we want to achieve anything.

“We’ve shown we can do it but the concentration levels from the boys – and their mentality – needs to change.”

Steve Halford, Buxton co-manager

“I think on this occasion it was good news not to have a game in midweek.

“We can benefit from an extra couple of days to recover from playing at a high tempo and with real intensity against Rushden & Diamonds in the FA Trophy.”

Carl Macauley, Witton Albion manager

Witton team news

Billy Smart continues to serve a suspension, but front man Will Jones returns after missing last weekend’s FA Trophy success against AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Captain Rob Hopley is a rated as doubtful by manager Carl Macauley after suffering a knock that forced him to leave the field during the same game.

Delial Brewster (ankle) is ruled out by injury.

A face Albion fans may recognise….

Tolani Omotola signed for the Bucks last month after starting the season with Coalville Town in the Southern League’s Premier Central Division.

The striker played an important role for Witton at the start of the 2016-2017 campaign, scoring 13 goals to set them on a course to be promoted from the Northern Premier League’s First Division South via the play-offs.

Remember when…

Witton Albion went to Buxton and beat them after borrowing a strip from their hosts?

Tony Sullivan’s side had ended a record run of 12 successive league defeats the previous weekend when they put five goals past Ashton United.

Despite arriving at Silverlands without a kit, they picked up where they had left off to record a 3-0 win.

Alex Titchiner scored twice, either side of Danny Andrews’ penalty, to secure maximum points for the visitors on November 25, 2014.
