Neston 2nd 2-1 Winnington Park

WINNINGTON Park’s inconsistent start to a new campaign continued last weekend when they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Neston’s seconds.

The Northwich side dominated possession in the first-half but were unable to score a goal despite creating a series of chances.

Instead they were hit by a one-two after the interval when their hosts scored twice in quick succession and goalkeeper Sam Robbins prevented Park falling further behind.

They raised hopes of a recovery when Dave Thompson converted from a short corner but it proved only to be a consolation.

Winnington Park 2nd 4-3 Runcorn

RICHARD Taig scored a decisive goal to complete a remarkable comeback by Winnington Park’s seconds against Runcorn.

They had rallied initially after falling behind when Fabian Hickson restored parity.

However Runcorn found the net twice after half-time to establish a 3-1 lead, prompting the home team at Sir John Deane’s College to change formation and send Harry Garner further forward.

He dribbled past four players before reducing the deficit and then equalised after leading a break on the right wing and entering the circle.

Taig, a promising youngster, made it 4-3 to Park late on.

Runcorn 2nd 0-2 Winnington Park 3rd

WINNINGTON Park’s thirds ran into an inspired goalkeeper for Runcorn seconds and could be forgiven for thinking it wouldn’t be their day.

He saved Liam McKee’s penalty stroke in the first-half and blocked instinctively when John Crouchley appeared certain to open the scoring.

Shane Sutton found a way past though after the turnaround and McKee made up for his earlier miss when he doubled their tally to secure maximum points.

Winnington Park 4th 0-2 Bebington 3rd

GOALKEEPER Elis Wilson was Winnington Park fourths’ outstanding performer during a 2-0 defeat at home to Bebington thirds.

A young side from Northwich, still searching for their first points of the campaign in the North West Men’s League, reached the interval on level terms.

They resisted pressure again for long spells in the second period before their guests struck when they had started to tire.
