CAROL Robson took the women’s prize for Weaver Valley Cycling Club when they hosted their Cat and Fiddle Hill Climb.

She rode a 6.6-mile distance along the A537 to the former pub in wet and cold conditions, stopping the clock in 32:06.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club member was pipped by Chris Davies (Giant Halo) and Marcus Walker (Bush Healthcare) during a sprint to the line at the end of a contest over an undulating 48-mile course.

Emily Martin concluded a busy weekend with plenty to be proud of after securing a promotion to a higher category in the British Cycling rankings.

She collected the points she required from the Darley Moor Circuit Races’ latest round, riding away from both her rivals in a small field to win the women’s race.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club member had been in action the previous afternoon, battling heavy rain and a wet road surface to take second in a Manchester and District Ladies’ Cycling Association’s 25-mile time trial.

She timed 1:02.42 to trail victor Sarah Grant (Vision Racing), while Carol Robson clocked 1:13.10 to classify fifth of the veteran entrants in the field.

Weaver Valley hosted a men’s competition over the same course, won by Alex Jones (Rhyl CC) in 52:22.

From the Northwich club, Alistair Stanway was first to the finish in 1:00.56 – ranking 18th overall – ahead of Paul Connor (1:06.50), Dan Robson (1:07.45), Craig Sephton (1:07.48), Dan Conaway (1:07.50) and Colin Latter (1:10.16).

Steve Marlow was third in the over 60s age-group category in 1:06.48.

Lynsey Astles was third fastest of the women to contest a Manchester and District Time Trial Association 10-mile contest on a course close to Chelford.

She stopped the clock in 27:49, an average speed for 21.57mph, to finish ahead of Carol Robson who reduced her personal best for the course by more than a minute.

Dan Robson’s 26:29 was a lifetime best too, ranking him 16th overall on a day when David Williams (Velotik RT), who timed 21:06, and Alix Archer (Maxx RT) took the men’s and women’s prizes respectively.
