AWARDS and club captaincies have been handed out by Northwich Centurions.

While recognition was given to the achievements of the season just finished at the club’s presentation night on Saturday, thoughts also turned to the next one.

Out-going club captains were thanked as their successors were announced to be Ella Richardson and Ethan Beckman.

Andy Day, assistant performance head coach, said: “Being club captain is a tricky thing, as they have to be the bridge between the coaches and the swimmers.

“From a strong field, we went for two people who we believe will do a tremendous job this year.

“We are confident they are going to take the club captaincy on and it is going to thrive under their stewardship.”

New performance head coach Simon Pickering was on hand to congratulate the successful applicants, Ella and Ethan.

Many successes of swimmers and lifesavers were recognised on the night, while there were four special awards handed out.

Aleksandra Neshkova received the Jack Denton Trophy, which is awarded to the development squad swimmer who has shown the most dedication and improvement.

The Nagir Trophy, honouring the performance squad swimmer who has shown the most dedication and improvement, was collected by Eleanor Ma.

For Ella Richardson, the performance squad swimmer to have shown excellent training ethics, support of her peers and demonstration of club values, the Head Coach’s Trophy was presented.

And the Alan Rogers Trophy, awarded for the most district and county points gained, Laila Johnson was revealed as the recipient.

Awards were presented to all age group and squad winners who competed in the club championships in June.

Recognition was also afforded to numerous swimmers who broke club records, a significant achievement in a club that is more than a century old.

Chairman Steve Bradshaw, in opening the formalities with a speech, acknowledged the dedication of the many coaches, teachers, team managers and committee members – all of whom are volunteers – before highlighting the success of Centurions over the past year in the pool, competitively, and as a club within the local community.
