CHRIS Perry improved on a lifetime best when he represented England for the first time at last week’s Manchester International.

The Vale Royal Athletics Club member finished second in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase in damp and blustery conditions at SportCity, stopping the clock in 8:55.19.

He kept pace with victor Adam Kirksmith throughout, collecting points that helped his team to emerge as winners at the end of the event’s third edition.

He was joined in England colours by Jacob Brown, also a Vale Royal runner, who classified sixth in a men’s 1,500m race that went the way of Scotland’s Sol Sweeney after a sprint finish.

Meanwhile Perry, 28, continued a fine week by setting another personal marker in a men’s 5,000m race at Stretford during the British Milers’ Club Grand Prix on Saturday.

He crossed the line eighth in 14:09.64.
