Why should I watch..?
To see if 1874 Northwich can carry the momentum from a strong finish in Saturday’s first meeting into tonight’s replay.
A team managed by Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison would feel their campaign has received a kick-start if they can progress to the preliminary round.
There were promising signs during the second-half at Victoria Park, although their initial objective is to avoid another wretched start that leaves them playing catch-up.
Burscough will be buoyed by how ruthless they were to punish defensive errors and Terry Cummings was a persistent threat to 1874’s defence.
In Chad Whyte, the Linnets have a forward that knows where the net is.
What they’ve said
“Lads know when they’ve made mistakes, and they don’t need us to be on their backs about it.
“What is important is we make sure we’re on the front foot all the time and don’t switch off.
“There’s a lot of determination in this side, and they showed that on Saturday when they rolled up their sleeves and fought back.”
Paul Bowyer, 1874 Northwich co-manager
Numbers game
1874 have conceded eight goals in two matches to date, and would dearly love a clean-sheet to boost confidence in defence
Man to keep an eye on
Matthew Green
The goalkeeper made an encouraging debut for 1874 Northwich at the weekend, and will want to follow that up with another solid performance at Barton Stadium tonight.
He gave a glimpse of his ability to start attacks with impressive distribution, something that was a strength in predecessor Greg Hall’s game.
1874 team news
Ryan Mitchell (groin) is ruled out by an injury sustained during a first meeting between the teams on Saturday but Matty Russell (ankle) is hopeful of recovering from a knock.
Jake Parker is missing through work commitments, while Sam Hind is unavailable.
Kazim Waite-Jackson returns to the squad after a holiday, while Matthew Beadle (thigh) is expected to feature too.
