Matthew Jamieson’s perfect timing

Has scored a half-century in each of Oulton Park’s past three matches and in the past two – both wins – his contribution changed the course of the contest.

A score of 59 helped increase the visitors’ total at Grappenhall to one they could feel confident of defending to bring to an end a run of five successive league defeats in the Premier Division.

Others higher up the order have played their part this season, but Jamieson has delivered at a delicate moment for the Little Budworth club.

Do Davenham start to worry yet?

A victory away to Sale earlier this month has been followed by back-to-back losses against teams challenging for promotion.

While disappointed to have been dismissed for less than 140 in both of those games, Davenham’s fate is unlikely to be decided in those head-to-head contests.

They sit 10th in Division One, 34 points clear of the relegation zone, ahead of a trip to back-markers Barrow on Saturday.

While not quite in ‘must win’ territory, Danny Hancock’s men will expect to complete a double against opponents that have lost 10 of their 14 league matches.

Tharusha is finding his feet

A maiden century for Northwich’s overseas signing at Runcorn on Saturday followed an impressive 86 seven days earlier against Alvanley.

There was a maturity to add to the skill shown by the teenager in his latest innings, making sure he was at the crease to see his side to their target after they lost four wickets in quick succession when a fifth victory of the season had seemed assured.

A tally of four half-centuries, and now a ton, have taken his runs total beyond 500 for the campaign.

Weaverham’s best Saturday so far?

The Russets’ superb six-wicket win against Mobberley, a direct rival in a fight to avoid relegation out of the Cheshire County League, could be transformative.

Ian Eaton’s men climbed out of the drop zone as a reward and can feel optimistic even if a gap to second-bottom Tattenhall is only six points.

A successful chase will bolster belief among members of a young side that they can survive.

Barnton are looking wobbly

A clash with Bredbury St Mark’s at Broomsedge this Saturday feels like a huge game.

Simon Hancock’s side start that contest with a gap of only a dozen points to the bottom two following a fifth defeat in their past six matches last weekend.

Their failings were familiar; bowl out an opponent cheaply – they knocked over Lymm for 137 – and then fall short at the crease.

It’s why they’ve won only three games all season.

Park’s push is over surely?

A 76-run reverse at Maritime leaves Winnington adrift of those in front chasing the second promotion spot behind likely-champions Oakmere.

The visitors did a reasonable job in the field, but were distinctly less convincing when they batted – succumbing for 111.

Captain Alec Butcher has enjoyed a positive campaign at the top of the order, but there has little consistency below.

If their hopes have not yet vanished, then their margin for error during the remaining games feels narrower than ever.

A win at home to Ashley on Saturday would help.
