JOSH Burke can consider himself unlucky after twice narrowly missing out on a medal during the British Rowing Junior Championships at the weekend.

The Northwich Rowing Club sculler was fourth in an under 18s boys’ single at the National Water Sports Centre.

He also joined forces on Sunday with Tom Swithenbank, Morgan Linfield and Harrison Kendall in a quad that classified in the same position following the A final for their boat class.

Meanwhile Swithenbank and Kendall took eighth place overall in an under 18s boys’ double after crossing the in second spot in a B final.

Another Northwich boat, this time with Patrick Brogan and Gwilym Harris on board, took part in a battle for medals in an under 16s boys’ double.

They ranked fifth, edging out Grange School Rowing Club combination Sam Thorington and Brad Strickland-Baker.

Brogan and Harris were on duty too with Jack Wilne and Josh Jackson as part of a quad that was sixth in a time trial on Saturday.

They followed that with fourth place in their semi-final only to be denied a chance to race again in the B final when their opponents from Lea withdrew.

Lydia Heath and Ellie Heathcock were beaten to a place in the A final in an under 18s girls’ double but recovered to take second – and eighth overall – in the B final for their category.

Molly Garlick and Amber Sperring-Toy were 10th in an under 16s girls’ double, improving on their position in a time trial, while an under 15s girls’ quad representing Northwich gained valuable experience on the national stage.

Anna Carnell, Maisy Jardine, Sophie Garlick, Honor Campbell and cox Grace Sperring-Toy took part.

Grange scullers Seb Paisley and Antonia Molton competed in an under 16s boys’ and girls’ single respectively, with the former ranking inside the top 10.
