WHARTON Cons cruised through to the Brunner Cup final after dropping only three chalks in a comprehensive defeat of Crosstown at the Limes on Saturday.
The Winsford outfit led by more than 30 chalks after wins in the first four blocks, including an impressive 21-5 success for Graham Donnelly – who had interrupted a break in Blackpool to play – against Ashleigh Woof.
And they did not look back.
A 21-18 reverse for Dave Hamlett junior was a blip, and the only occasion they failed to return a winning card, as they remained on a course to win the Cheshire County Bowling Association’s most coveted team prize for a fourth time.
Standing in their way will be Tixall, who were similarly emphatic victors against West Kirby Victoria in the other semi-final encounter.
Jimmy Harrop followed his triumph in the Guardian Cup final the previous evening with another against Dave Rogerson while Mark Winnington recovered from a slow start to beat Ann Jones.
Dave Hamlett senior despatched Jidd Webb (21-9) while Dave Morrey also restricted Howard Taylor to a single-figure score.
Shaun Yearsley’s break of 15, from 11-6 down, secured for him a morale-boosting win to finish his side’s afternoon in style.
They turn their attention next to a head-to-head with the Wirral outfit on Saturday, August 18.
