MIDLEWICH Town progressed to the last 16 of the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup on Saturday with a comfortable victory over Poulton Royal of the West Cheshire League.
George Hopkins forced two saves from the visitors goalkeeper and chances were squandered from set pieces before Chris Lunn opened the scoring by collecting a Scott Twite pass and smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Poulton finished the half by testing Charles Masters with a thunderous strike but the Middlewich custodian was equal to it.
The killer goal came from the penalty spot in the second half.
Jamie Petrie was brought down in the box after jinxing past several defenders.
Michael Evans dispatched the spot kick into the bottom corner.
