Marks & Spencer will reopen 118 of its cafes across England and Northern Ireland from today (July 4).

The reopening comes as the government relaxes restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. However, strict safety measures will be in place to keep everyone safe.

A spokesperson from M&S shared what customers can expect when they go: "We know our customers have missed visiting their local M&S café – whether it be for a family lunch, quick catch-up over a hot drink or even just a change of scenery.

"This Saturday (July 4) sees 118 M&S cafés in England and Northern Ireland re-open so customers can dine-in at a distance as part of their shopping trip.

"A further 64 locations will also be open for takeaway-only hot drinks.

"The 118 cafés will be offering an ‘M&S Café Favourites’ menu - containing many of our most popular items including bacon & sausage buns, toasties and toasted teacakes.

"Cold drinks, cakes and sandwiches will also be available, as well as our fantastic Cream Tea offer for £4 which includes a choice of hot drink with scone, clotted cream and jam. Very in-keeping for those enjoying the fortnight of Wimbledon tennis re-runs.

"For those after a quality tea or coffee break during their shop - whether hot or iced - our baristas are waiting to serve up our delicious Brazilian Single Origin, as well as our exclusive House blend of Fairtrade arabica coffee from Ethiopia, Honduras, Peru and Sumatra, which is freshly roasted for us every week in Glasgow.

"From farm to roaster, all of our coffees are cupped (tasted) more than 30 times to make sure they make the grade."

These are the new safety rules for customers:

  • WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Customers will be greeted by a colleague host who will manage the flow of customers in and out of the café – so there may be a short queue. Hand sanitiser stations have been installed at or near the entrance of every café.
  • WHEN YOU ORDER & PAY: Throughout the café there’ll be a one-way system to limit contact and signage to remind customers to maintain social distancing. Perspex screens have been installed at each café till and M&S is continuing to encourage contactless payments. Colleagues will wash their hands every 30 minutes with additional washing immediately after taking cash payments.
  • WHEN YOU DINE: All tables will be a minimum of 1m apart and 2m distance will be encouraged where possible. Individual condiments will be available instead of shared bottles, and colleagues will clean and sanitise all trays, tables and chairs after every use.
