Morrisons is giving free pots of tea to customers with every café menu purchase on Tuesday, July 5 to celebrate the NHS’ 74th birthday.

For every pot given to customers on the day, the supermarket will donate 5p to NHS Charities Together.

An additional 5p will also be donated for all cups of tea that are bought by customers in Morrisons’ cafés from June 13 to July 10.

NHS Big Tea was created by NHS Charities Together and it aims to raise funds to provide extra support for staff, patients and volunteers.

In its second year supporting the initiative, the supermarket hopes to raise more than £250,000 through activity both in-store and online.

Morrisons will also raise money through its Every Pack Gives Back scheme which allows customers to donate when they buy tea party essentials in its Deli, Grocery and Dairy aisles until July 13.

Products include tea bags, sandwich fillers and party platters and they’ll be available to buy at no extra cost for customers both in-store and online.

To further fundraise for the NHS, Morrisons stores across the country will also be hosting NHS Big Tea parties in its cafés for the local community to attend from July 1 to July 3.

David Scott, Corporate Affairs Director at Morrisons, said: “The NHS, its staff and volunteers have kept the country going during the last couple of challenging years and we are proud to do all we can to give back.

"The NHS Big Tea event is an opportunity for people to come together, celebrate and show their appreciation - whilst raising funds that can make a big impact.”

Ellie Orton OBE, Chief Executive at NHS Charities Together, said: “The NHS can’t face every challenge alone, and as the national, independent charity caring for the NHS we are proud to have funded hundreds of incredible projects supporting staff, patients and communities.

“By hosting tea parties and inviting your friends, colleagues or classmates, the NHS Big Tea allows us to come together and say an enormous thank you to our incredible NHS.

"So, whether at home, in the office or in school, we’re asking the nation to pop the kettle on, grab the biscuits, and raise vital funds to help the NHS go further this July.”

In 2021, Morrisons raised £240,000 for NHS Big Tea and it hopes to beat its target of more than £250,000 in 2022.
