The Middlewich and District Concerts Society opened its 26th season with a recital by the trio ‘intriplicate’. At least that was the plan. Unfortunately Claire Fillhart (flute) had to withdraw the day before the concert. Sally Richardson (oboe) and Claire Dunham (piano) were able to put together a concert in the following 24 hours and the audience was delighted by the result.
The music then began with a piece by Nielsen for oboe and piano. Claire then performed three short piano pieces (Mozart, Schubert and Suk), before being joined once again by Sally for a Saint-Saens sonata, which brought the first half to an exciting close. The second half began with a lively Poulenc sonata. Claire played piano pieces (Poulenc and Chopin) and was joined by Sally for Gabriel’s Oboe (Ennio Morricone, from the film The Missionary).
Piano pieces by John Ireland and Madeleine Dring followed and the duo finished with Madeleine Dring’s ‘Italian Dance’.
The next concert will be on Saturday, November 14, in the Drama Studio of Middlewich High School, with Harp2Harp. For further details please see the web-site madcs.org.uk or contact Roger Evans on 01606 834471.
