A VILLAGE that is steeped in tradition is using Facebook to welcome new residents.

Dave Evans, 61, said the social networking site was helping to unite new and old villagers in Moulton.

“We have an event this week and some people who have only been in the village for a few weeks will be selling balloons for us,” he said.

“Facebook is helping people find out what is going on in the village and gives them a way of getting in touch with us.”

In recent weeks Moulton’s Facebook page has gone from 60 likes to more than 230.

Many are people moving to the village who simply wanted to find out more about what is going on.

The rest are ‘Moultoners’ who are dotted around the world and are keen to share their memories, photographs and thoughts about the village.

“Once a Moultoner, always a Moultoner is our motto,” said Dave. “I’ve not lived there for years, but if someone were to ask me where I am from I would say ‘Moulton’.”

Teenager Claire Bennett started the Facebook page, which is now being managed by Dave and Barry Gibson.

On it are pictures of Moulton taken decades ago as well as people talking about the traditions of the Crow Fair, which attracts people from miles around every year.

There are Facebook followers from Moulton who are now living in America, Australia, Cyprus as well as across Britain.

One woman living in Canada has even sent some gifts to be raffled off at the group’s event on Saturday.

Dave said the weekend’s fun day was a chance to make an impression in Moulton.

“To be recognised as a group we need to do something special and show we are Moulton People who are here for Moulton People,” he said.

Everyone is welcome at Saturday’s Fun Day, which is being organised with the events committee.

Attractions will include a bouncy castle, toy shop, catering, music and a fireworks display. It runs 3pm till late.
