MORE than £4,000 has been raised for the One in Eleven Appeal thanks to the help of keen golfers in Cheshire.

Golfers took to the green at Vale Royal Abbey (VRA) Golf Club for a fundraising round to support the appeal, which aims to raise £1m to create a new neonatal unit at Leighton Hospital.

Thirteen teams enjoyed the 18-hole course, which was followed by a three course dinner in the VRA Great Hall.

A charity auction also took place with great prizes including golf merchandise and signed football shirts from Manchester United and Crewe Alexandra.

Laura Bailey, One in Eleven fundraising manager, said: “We have raised more than we ever expected, thanks to the teams and a fantastic fundraising auction.

“There were some showers but thankfully the weather dried up and it was a really enjoyable day for everyone.

“We are delighted that so many people got involved and helped us step closer to creating a bigger and better neonatal unit that will support babies and families in their most difficult times into the future.”
