IT has been more than 50 years since their eyes first met across the crowded dance floor, but for this Golden couple, their love is still as strong as ever.

Geoff and Enid Falland, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, first met at Kitty Oakes dance studio in 1960.

“We used to go dancing at Kitty Oakes with friends every Saturday night,” said 70-year-old Geoff.

“I saw Enid dancing and decided to go and ask her out – it just went on from there really.”

After two years of dating, the couple married at Witton Church on October 6, 1962, going on to have two children and four grandchildren.

The pair, who spend many a holiday caravanning around the UK, say there is no secret to their long and happy marriage and that they just “put up with each other”.

“We’re not a very romantic couple but we’ve always made sure we’ve worked at our relationship,” said 68-year-old Enid.

“Too many people nowadays break up over the smallest of arguments.”

Geoff added: “We have our rows, like any couple, but we never walk away from each other, and we’re always more in love than ever once we’ve made up.”

Geoff and Enid now live in Castle Court in Northwich but spent 26 years living in Leftwich, where Geoff was a fireman for more than 30 years.

“We were one of the first families to move into the fire station,” said Geoff, originally from Greenbank.

“There was no Kingsmead estate back then, it was just fields behind us. We have a lot of happy memories from living there.”

Looking back at their life together, Geoff and Enid laughed and smiled, sharing stories of their youth and what it was like in the 60s.

“The fire service isn’t what it was back then,” said Geoff, “I’d go to work at five in the morning and not come back for three days – I spent many a night eating corned beef butties in forests or on hills.”

The golden couple, who have recently returned from a cruise around the Mediterranean, are now preparing to visit the Isle of Wight in celebration of 50 years of happy marriage.
