YEAR 11 students at the University of Chester Academy Northwich (UCAN) have had incredible success as students gained five A*-C grades, a staggering 14 percent increase in just one year.

Matthew Wood, principal at UCAN, said: “I would like to congratulate our Year 11 2012 for achieving the best results in the history of the building. This outstanding progress from last year demonstrates the hard work of staff and students at the Academy, none of which could have been achieved without the support of our students’ parents/carers.

“We have worked extremely hard over the last 12 to 18 months to ensure that our students leave us with qualifications to secure their future personal success, we are absolutely thrilled with the results this year and wish our Year 11 leavers every success for the future and hope that they will continue to aspire, achieve and excel.”

Students’ GCSE success is truly a remarkable achievement for UCAN, which became an Academy in January this year.

There were a number of standout performances at the Academy. Mr Wood congratulated the following students who gained excellent results.

Paula Jones (10 A/A*, 1 C) Helen Hankey (9 A/A*, 1 B, 1 C) Beth Johnson (8 A/A*, 3 B) Eloise Ingham (6 A/A*, 2 B, 2 C) Alexander Rourke (6 A/A*, 4 B) Aaron Hood (5 A, 5B, 1C)

Matthew Wood, principal: “These are the best results in our history, in all the time we’ve been open. It’s a 42 per cent increase on last year’s results which is a big leap. We’re very very pleased.”
