TOWN chiefs have issued a stern warning to those responsible for vandalising a toddler’s playground just two weeks after it was installed.
The new £20,000 toddler playground was damaged after vandals went on the rampage at Wharton Recreation Park over six nights last week.
Newly laid turf and safety matting was ripped out and a swing was yanked from its metals frame - scratching all the new paintwork.
Across the park, goal posts were ripped from ground and the gents toilets and washbasins in the pavilion were stuffed with toilet rolls before the taps were turned on full.
On Tuesday, August 9, an 8ft x 8ft section of wire fencing was cut from the basketball court, believed to be the work of adults.
The park has also been blighted by litter and in one incident every page from the Argos catalogue was strewn all over the ground.
Alan Warburton, town clerk, said he is determined to put an end to the destruction.
He added: “It’s quite shocking really.
“The new toddler play area was installed because parents have been calling for something for small children for years.
“It is such a shame that it has been destroyed just days after it was installed.
“Police officers have said they will be keeping an eye on the area and Cheshire West and Chester Council have promised to prosecute anyone they catch.”
