MUSICIANS and football fans from mid Cheshire have teamed up to produce a song they hope will spur Northwich Victoria on to more FA Cup success.

Chris Mundie, from The Business and Joe Penny, from Helsinki Seven, decided to pen the song for Vics – with help from friends Ben Whitfield, Sammy Stephens, Rob Tucker and Jay Prawn – after the club’s giant killing victory over Charlton Athletic in the first round of the FA Cup.

After watching the game on television, Chris headed down to the studio and it was there that the lyrics fell into place.

Chris said: “I went to Boom Studios, in Winnington, which is owned by Joe, to put down some demos for my band.

“We got talking about the Northwich game and figured it would be a laugh to record a track based on the cup game.

“So we put some lyrics together, added vocal assistance from some mates and recorded what is our tribute to a great game won by Vics.

“With us all being from the Northwich area, it’s good to see the positive effect a game like that can have, it’s good to see people proud of local success and to have Northwich up on the national radar again.”

It may not be up there yet with the Anfield Rap or Manchester United’s cringeworthy Move, Move, Move but the song features a catchy chorus and the group hope it will become a firm favourite on the Danebank.

Joe added: “We thought if we could make it a bit of an anthem and make it a song for Vics it could get some interest behind them ready for the next game.

“It is just trying to raise awareness about the team’s success.

“The money is really important for the club and it raises awareness of the town.”

“We are both musicians and promote our music via the web and thought we would do the same for this.

“I added it on Facebook first and it got 200 watches and then I got in touch with the Guardian and by the end of the day on Tuesday, it had had 500 views.

“I then put it on the trust forum and then on a file sharing site so people can download it for free.

“One of the lads on the forum said we should try and get it played on the day of the Lincoln game.”

Vics told the Guardian that they would play the song before home matches in the run up to the FA Cup second round tie against Lincoln on November 28, plus on the big day itself.
